The Beacon Theater was originally designed for vaudeville performances and as a place to show movies. It first opened it's doors in 1929. Over time it has become one of the leading live music venues in NYC. It's got a seating capacity of 2,894.

Many big name bands such as The Allman Brothers Band, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Phish, Dave Matthews Band, Motley Crue, and Queen have performed at this venue which is known for it's excellent acoustics.

The Rolling Stones live performances for the "Shine a Light" documentary (directed by Martin Scorsese) were filmed at the Beacon Theater on November 1 of 2006.
