The rear of the building faces the Ed Sullivan Theater on West 53rd St. where David Letterman's Late Show is filmed. The rear of the building is often seen on the Late Show when there is "on the street" filming.
The Roseland Ballroom is a converted ice rink and is used for all kinds of events. Everything from Hillary Clinton's birthday party to movie premieres to "circuit parties" (gay dance parties) are held here.
At least two movies have scenes based at the Ballroom. The 1977 film Roseland is set in the Roseland Ballroom (as you may have guessed by the title) and Spike Lee's Malcolm X starring Denzel Washington includes a dancing scene there.
